Twinning

What was your first reaction to finding out you were having twins?

I cried a lot, I still sometimes cry. It’s so overwhelming to hear the word twins. I mean, a million things cross your mind. How are we gonna pay for them, make room for them, take care of them, breastfeed them? Does this mean we need a minivan? (in my case, yes, minivan it is) What’s it going to do to my body? Twins. Wait. What!? It’s definitely a lot to swallow.

Tell us your birth story with the twins…

I was lucky enough to have a natural birth which I am so grateful for. It was my birth plan but it is very uncommon in multiple births. I did have them at 34 for weeks due to some complications I was having but they were born perfect and healthy, just a little small in size. It was scary though because we weren’t sure what to expect. Are they gonna be ok? Healthy? In the NICU?

What was your greatest fear? Have you overcome that fear?

My fear is and always is how am I gonna do this? Clean the house, make dinner, get to preschool, get out of the house etc….It’s too much. Every day I surprise myself. Every day I get better and better. I have learned to let a lot of things go. You have to figure out what’s important and what’s not. Sometimes the dishes wait and sometimes we have eggs for dinner. It’s a learn as you go process and eventually you master a schedule, a plan and you make it happen.

What is your best advice for other mothers expecting twins?

To those expecting twins stop wishing it wasn’t happening because it is!! They are coming!! You can do this. I promise!!! Arrange as much help as possible. Set up Amazon Prime- get everything delivered-diapers, groceries- it will save your life. Oh and crockpot it up sister!

What’s the best and worst part about being a mother of multiples?

The best thing about having twins is that there are two of them. The worst part is that there are two of them. Two times the love, two times the pain.
