CBD OIL || YAY or NAY

Recently, on a visit to one of my favorite holistic energy doctors, Dr. Galitzer, I picked up a little bottle of CBD oil. All I knew really, was that it’s marijuana without the high- no THC, so it felt safe and didn’t feel wrong to purchase it, have it or talk about it -like marijuana would. (At least to me…)

My best friend’s grandfather recently passed away. He had tumors on his brain and while I was researching natural paths to healing for him, CBD kept coming up. It got my attention thinking, well, it certainly cannot hurt to start taking this on a regular basis if it acts as a preventative and combative drug in some instances against really serious illness.

So, while I was in LA at Dr. Galitzers, and saw the oil on the shelf, (now that all things MaryJane are legal in our state), I said “self, we are going to be getting some of that and trying it”.

No better day than today to discuss what is this “it drug” is and why so many people are taking it.

Happy 4/20 folks.

An organic chemist named Roger Adams isolated cannabidiol during a wave of marijuana research in the 30s+40s. Marijuana growers were hoping that by smoking the plants with high levels of CBD, they might get high, but they were very wrong. As we know now, it’s the THC that provides the high that so many know and love.

CBD became known as “the hippie’s disappointment”. hahaha.

Now, the hippie’s disappointment is back with a vengeance, rebranded as the stressed out modern woman’s salvation.

Sounds pretty good to me!

Where do you purchase CBD Oil?

I purchased mine at a pharmacy in LA next to my energy doctor’s office on Wilshire. However, the experts say that there’s no better place to find high quality CBD than at a medical cannabis dispensary. There, you can discuss what’s available with people that have experience with different people, and various brands and find a CBD that’s right for you. Health food stores also often carry CBD extracts these days, and the staff can be quite knowledgeable, but usually you find that the best product is in dispensaries.

The People’s OC :: Dispensaries scare me because I don’t want to go anywhere weird or grungy. I called my good friend who is an expert shall we say and works for the “Yelp of Cannabis”, and this place came highly recommended for AOBF readers. I have never visited personally but looks nice!

We love that you can put the oil in smoothies, lattes, brownies – you name it. Here are two brands we trust :: The Daily Hit + Mowellens !!

CBD SPIKED COCKTAILS – do we have your attention now? Here’s a fun way to get that CBD oil down the hatch…

Goop recently published a guide to CBD-spiked cocktails which sounded like a good idea, so we tried it! Keep scrolling to see how to make a GIN + CHRONIC. 🙂

CBD is typically associated with feelings of euphoria and relaxation while alleviating nausea, anxiety, and other physical discomforts (for most, this is a welcomed addition to a cocktail). That being said, it affects everyone differently—the same cocktail may make one person extremely chilled out, while another will feel nothing.

Try it for yourself::

Gin & Chronic
SERVES 1

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
    3 1/2 ounces tonic water
    1/4 ounce lemon juice
    15 mg CBD oil
aromatics of choice such as marijuana leaves, lime wheel, grapefruit peel, edible flowers, herbs, and peppercorns

1. In a wine glass, combine the gin, lemon juice, and tonic water. Top with ice.
2. Arrange aromatics in the drink in an aesthetically-pleasing fashion.
3. Float CBD oil on top.
(This last step is important – we liked to drop the oil down an ice cube and under a flower and let it migrate as a whole because as you know, oil and liquid don’t mix and if you make the mistake of mixing it, it will not be pretty! And we like things pretty!!)
